With American putts finding the bottom of the cup from 90ft away, it is no wonder Europe found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-8 score line at the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup at Blairgowrie Golf Club.
And it was a 90ft putt from current European Tour member Austin Connelly, who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States, that nobody could stop talking about.
The putt that won his mixed fourball match with Hannah O’Sullivan on the final hole was so good that it even made number one on SportsCenter’s top ten plays of the day.
“It was like nothing I’ve experienced, watching that go in,” Connelly said of the lengthy putt. “I really can’t describe it, just amazing.
“I came down and just wanted to get a visual of what line it needed coming in to have a chance and just do my best to get the pace right and by some miracle it went in.”
